A tragic incident occurred on the A6 near Kaiserslautern at around 11 p.m. last night, resulting in three fatalities. The collision involved two vehicles, a black Audi S8 and a VW Golf, both travelling towards Saarbrücken.

The accident took place at the Kaiserslautern-Ost exit, causing the highway to be closed for several hours. The fire department assisted those stranded on the highway due to the closure, but could not redirect them off the highway due to the dangerous situation.

The 46-year-old suspected driver of the Audi survived with injuries and was taken to a hospital. He is described as "severely injured" by the police, but the current condition is unclear. The suspected driver is the focus of the police investigation, along with the cause of the accident and the circumstances leading to the vehicles catching fire.

The fire was so intense that the bodies of the victims were burned beyond recognition, making identification difficult. Autopsies are being conducted to identify the deceased individuals, but their identities have not yet been released, pending further investigation.

The police are also investigating whether one of the vehicles was an electric car, but no information is available yet.

The collision led to several dangerous situations, as drivers began to turn around on the highway, increasing the risk of further accidents. There has been criticism on social media towards the police for not guiding the stationary cars back to the exits, but the police maintain that the distance was too great for such a maneuver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kaiserslautern Autobahnpolizei at 0631 369-11899. The police are seeking witnesses who may have seen the collision or either of the vehicles on the A6 in the direction of Saarbrücken late Saturday night.

As the investigation continues, the police urge drivers to remain vigilant and to cooperate with any requests for information. The A6 accident near Kaiserslautern serves as a grim reminder of the importance of safe driving and the potential consequences of carelessness on the road.
