Post Office at Fort Howard set to shut down, but USPS locates a solution
In a relief to the Fort Howard community, Maryland Congressman Kweisi Mfume and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski have collaborated with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to find a solution that ensures mail services for the community, despite the scheduled closure of the Fort Howard Post Office.
The USPS plans to install a cluster mailbox unit with 169 mailboxes along North Point Road at Fort Howard Veterans Park, approximately two blocks away from the Fort Howard Post Office. This installation will provide a centralized location for mail services, saving residents time and effort, as well as avoiding the need to drive 15 miles to the closest post office in Dundalk.
The agreement has been commended by Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin, who stated that it meets the immediate and long-term needs of the Fort Howard community. The senators praised the collaborative effort between the local officials and the USPS, highlighting the resolution's success in addressing the concerns of the impacted residents and ensuring that their mail delivery needs are met.
The Fort Howard Veterans Park already hosts mailbox units, which were installed in 2003. The addition of the new USPS cluster mailbox unit will further enhance the convenience for the Fort Howard residents, offering them 169 mailboxes for their use. The installation of the new mailbox unit is expected to provide consistent mail delivery for the community, ensuring that they can continue to receive their mail without disruption.
The USPS cluster mailbox unit at Fort Howard Veterans Park is not intended to replace the Fort Howard Post Office, which is still scheduled to close. However, it is a significant step towards maintaining mail services for the community and demonstrates the commitment of the USPS, local officials, and elected representatives to addressing the needs of the Fort Howard community.
In conclusion, the installation of the USPS cluster mailbox unit at Fort Howard Veterans Park is a positive development for the Fort Howard community. It offers a centralized location for mail services, saves residents time and effort, and ensures consistent mail delivery. The collaborative effort between the USPS, local officials, and elected representatives has resulted in a resolution that meets the immediate and long-term needs of the Fort Howard community.
