Municipal Elections in Marl: Mail-In Voting Information

The municipal elections in Marl, scheduled for September 14, 2025, are approaching, and citizens have several options for casting their votes.

All eligible voters have received their voting notifications, and those who wish to vote by mail can apply online or informally by email. Applications for mail-in voting can be submitted via email to [email protected] or online at https://www.marl.de/briefwahlantrag. The last chance to apply for mail-in voting is on Friday, September 12, from 8 am to 3 pm, or in case of illness and with a corresponding medical certificate until Sunday, September 14, 3 pm.

If you choose to vote by mail, your ballot must be submitted by the deadline on election day, September 14, until 4 pm, but only at the voting office located in room P1 of the island Volkshochschule, Wiesenstr. 22. The voting office is open from Monday to Tuesday from 8 am to 4 pm, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 12.30 pm, and Thursdays from 8 am to 6 pm. On Friday, September 12, 2025, and in case of a possible runoff election on Friday, September 26, 2025, the voting office is open from 8 am to 3 pm.

When applying for mail-in voting, citizens must bring a valid ID and fill out their voting notification at home, signing it personally. It is also possible to cast your vote directly at the voting office.

Michael Lauche, head of the voting office and deputy mayor of Marl, finds it fascinating that eligible voters cast their ballots from all over the world. As of now, there are almost 13,000 mail-in voting applications in Marl, representing approximately 20 percent of Marl's eligible voters. The participation in mail-in voting is particularly high in the Alt-Marler Riegefeld and Drewer-Süd, with 32 percent.

Interestingly, a mail-in voter from Australia has submitted an application, but the search results do not contain information about a registered voter who received election materials from Australia. Citizens who have not received a voting notification can contact the voting office by phone at 99-2633.

The city center and Polsum also have a high participation rate, with just under 30 percent of voting slips issued. The voting office in Marl has been open for two weeks, providing citizens with ample time to apply for mail-in voting and cast their votes. For those who prefer to vote in person, polling stations will be available on election day.
