Premier League squad, Tottenham Hotspur, secures Dutch midfielder Simons from RB Leipzig.

In a significant move for the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their squad by signing attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a long-term contract.

The 22-year-old Dutchman, known for his defensive prowess and ability to unlock defences, has joined Spurs after a disappointing season with Leipzig, who finished seventh in the Bundesliga, missing out on a place in Europe.

Simons, who has been capped 28 times, is a versatile player, capable of excelling in both the number 10 position and the left wing. He is equally adept at scoring goals and providing assists, having scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 games across all competitions during his time at Leipzig.

Thomas Frank, the manager of Tottenham, expressed his pleasure about the signing, stating that Simons is a great addition to the squad. The manager is optimistic about Simons' contribution, particularly given Spurs' strong start to the season. Currently, Spurs are second in the Premier League standings, level on points with leaders Arsenal after two games.

Simons joined Leipzig permanently from Paris St Germain in January and is looking to continue his career elsewhere following Leipzig's underwhelming season. He signed a contract with Leipzig until 2027 before his transfer to Tottenham.

The financial details of the deal between Tottenham and Leipzig were not disclosed, but British media reported that Spurs agreed to pay €60 million ($70.24 million) for Simons.

With the addition of Xavi Simons, Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to maintain their momentum when they host Bournemouth on Saturday in their next Premier League match. The London club won the Europa League last term, qualifying for the Champions League, and will be aiming to build on this success with their new signing.
