Laowa's September Unveiling: New Lenses and Anamorphic Zooms
Venus Optics, the company behind the Laowa brand, is gearing up for a major September unveiling. The anticipated event is expected to take place at IBC and will showcase six new lenses, positioning Laowa once again as one of the boldest and most inventive players in optics.
Among the new offerings, two new full-frame anamorphic zooms are set to be revealed: the Sunlight 40-80mm T4.5 2x and the Sunlight 70-135mm T4.5 2x. These lenses boast versatile zoom ranges and a 2x anamorphic squeeze, making them ideal for cinematographers seeking a unique visual aesthetic.
In the realm of macro photography, the AF FF 180mm f/4.5 CA-Dreamer Macro 1.5x is a new autofocus lens with 1.5x magnification. This lens will be available for Canon EF-mount, Nikon Z, Sony E, and a variety of other mounts, including E, RF, and L. The AF FF 180mm f/4.5 CA-Dreamer Macro 1.5x is expected to be released in two finishes, gray and blue, with availability after China's National Day holiday in early October.
One of the most anticipated lenses in the lineup is the Laowa AF FF 200mm f/2 C-Dreamer. This long-rumored lens promises to be a game-changer, with a weight of under 1.6kg and a size that is over 5cm shorter than Nikon's benchmark 200mm f/2 (F-Mount). The Laowa AF FF 200mm f/2 C-Dreamer allows photographers and videographers to switch the aperture mechanism between stepped and stepless operation.
The unveiling also includes the FF II TS 35mm f/2.8 C-Dreamer Macro 0.5x, a tilt-shift lens with perspective control and close-up capability. A GFX version of the lens is being considered, although autofocus support for this version remains uncertain. The FF II TS 17mm f/4 C-Dreamer, a wide-angle tilt-shift lens aimed at landscape and architectural photographers, is another offering in the lineup.
