Prime Minister Modi Heading to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to Examine Flood and Landslide Destruction
Prime Minister to Assess Flood Relief Efforts in Punjab
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Punjab on September 9, as the state grapples with severe flooding that has claimed at least 46 lives and affected over 1.5 lakh people. The visit aims to speed up relief and reconstruction work in the flood-hit areas.
The Prime Minister's agenda includes an aerial survey of the worst-affected regions in Punjab, particularly in the Gurdaspur district. This survey will provide a comprehensive view of the extent of damage caused by the flooding.
In addition to the aerial survey, the Prime Minister will also visit flood-hit areas to meet families and farmers affected by the disaster. He will assess the relief and rehabilitation efforts currently underway and discuss ways to expedite central assistance.
To gain a better understanding of the situation, the Prime Minister will also meet with Jairam Thakur, Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. Thakur will brief the Prime Minister on the extent of damage to life and property in his state, which has also been affected by the flooding.
The Prime Minister's visit to Punjab will involve coordination with state authorities to ensure effective relief and reconstruction work. The estimated losses due to the flooding in Punjab are over Rs 13,000 crore, making it a significant disaster that requires immediate attention and action.
In a separate development, the Prime Minister will also visit Himachal Pradesh on the same day. He will hold a high-level review meeting in Dharamshala to discuss the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the state.
As the Prime Minister prepares for his visit, it is hoped that his presence will provide a boost to the ongoing relief efforts and help speed up the recovery process for those affected by the flooding in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
