Private investment of $13 billion in Anthropic during Series F, setting a valuation of $183 billion for the company

In a significant move for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, Anthropic has completed a $13 billion Series F fundraising round, valuing the company at an impressive $183 billion. This investment, announced on September 2, 2025, marks one of the largest venture capital rounds in AI history.

The fundraising round was led by ICONIQ, alongside co-leads Fidelity Management & Research Company and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Notable participants also included Altimeter, Baillie Gifford, affiliated funds of BlackRock, Blackstone, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, General Atlantic, General Catalyst, GIC, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Insight Partners, Jane Street, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Qatar Investment Authority, TPG, T. Rowe Price Associates, T. Rowe Price Investment Management, WCM Investment Management, and XN.

Amazon has emerged as a strategic partner for Anthropic, having completed its $4 billion investment commitment in March 2024. This investment comes as Anthropic's financial trajectory demonstrates remarkable acceleration. Run-rate revenue grew from approximately $1 billion at the beginning of 2025 to over $5 billion by August 2025.

Anthropic's business model encompasses multiple revenue streams. Besides Pro and Max plans for individual users, the company offers API access for enterprise customers. This diversified approach has been instrumental in Anthropic's success, with the company now serving over 300,000 business customers. Large accounts representing over $100,000 in run-rate revenue at Anthropic have grown nearly seven times in the past year.

The company's flagship product, Claude Code, a coding assistant, produces over $500 million in run-rate revenue with usage growing more than 10 times in just three months.

Anthropic's commitment to safety-conscious AI development is evident in its proposed comprehensive transparency framework for frontier AI model developers, announced on July 7, 2025. The framework applies only to companies meeting substantial financial criteria, including annual revenue cutoff amounts of $100 million or research and development/capital expenditures of $1 billion annually.

The European Union recognises the substantial economic potential from AI deployment, with AI having the potential to add more than a trillion euros per year to the EU economy by the mid-2030s. In line with this, Anthropic announced its intention to sign the European Union's General-Purpose AI Code of Practice on July 21, 2025.

As part of its expansion plans, Anthropic aims to accelerate international expansion while continuing to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. This strategic move reflects continued momentum in artificial intelligence development, driven by "leading technical talent, our focus on safety, and our frontier research, including pioneering alignment and interpretability work."

The funding will enable Anthropic to expand capacity for meeting growing enterprise demand while deepening safety research efforts. With this significant investment, Anthropic is poised to make a significant impact in the AI sector and beyond.
