Probe Concludes Following Burglary at Quick-Service Eatery
In a significant development in the ongoing investigations, four suspects were provisionally arrested on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in connection with a series of fast-food restaurant robberies that occurred in Essen, Germany, during the winter of 2024-2025.
The investigations were initiated following a robbery at a fast-food restaurant on Gladbecker Street on December 10, 2024. The robbers, wearing masks and armed with a gun and a knife, threatened the employees and made off with a substantial amount of cash.
Subsequent searches, executed by the Robbery Squad and special units, led to the recovery of a blank-firing gun, a four-figure sum of cash, and numerous communication devices from the suspects' apartments in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
The investigation team, set up to apprehend the perpetrators of the December 10 robbery, has also been looking into the suspects as potential suspects in two other robberies at fast-food restaurants in Essen-Schoenebeck and Essen-Steele from the same winter period.
At the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Duisburg, a judge issued search warrants against four suspects: three Syrian nationals (18 and 19 years old) and one Russian national (18 years old). The warrants were executed in the Essen City Area and Mülheim City Area on Tuesday morning.
The investigation led to suspicion falling on a group of young men who mainly reside in Mülheim an der Ruhr. However, the investigation team is yet to announce any charges or formal arrests in relation to these incidents.
The robbery on December 10, 2024, occurred just before closing. The robbers fled the scene after the robbery, and no injuries were reported. Special units were deployed during the searches in Mülheim an der Ruhr on June 17, 2025, due to the possibility that the suspects were armed.
The authorities are urging anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward and contact the local police. The investigation is still active, and more updates are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
