Progress of construction on the Johann-Weiß-Bridge remains on schedule

In the heart of Landshut, a significant construction project is underway. The city is set to receive a new bridge over the Kleine Isar, connecting Innere Regensburger Straße and Franz-Högner-Way or Johann-Weiß-Way.

At a recent groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Alexander Putz, CSU Bundestag member Florian Oßner, state parliamentarians Jutta Widmann (FW) and Ruth Müller (SPD), Government President Rainer Haselbeck, and State Minister for Housing, Building and Transport Christian Bernreiter (CSU) were present to mark the beginning of this exciting endeavour.

The construction company, Max Bögl, is responsible for the project. They have already initiated the process by setting the drilling piles for the deep foundation and filling in a construction road to build the bridge's central pillar right in the middle of the river.

The next steps involve creating formwork and reinforcement for the foundations, which will then be concreted. The old bridge, which has already been completely demolished, will be replaced in the coming months.

The new bridge design features a single bridge pillar, reducing the risk of debris getting stuck during high water. This innovative design aligns with the city's commitment to sustainability and safety.

Cycling is a central part of Bavarian mobility and climate policy, as stated by Minister Bernreiter. The new bridge will not only serve as a functional connection but also enhance the city's cycling infrastructure. The bike and pedestrian paths on the new bridge will be separated for improved traffic safety.

The clear width between the banks of the new bridge will be increased from 3.70 meters to 5.75 meters, providing more space for both pedestrians and cyclists. This measure is expected to make the bridge more attractive for both groups and further boost the city's cycling culture.

The total costs for the project amount to around 3.3 million euros, with approximately 2.57 million euros allocated for the bridge construction. The funding for this project comes from the Special Program for Town and Country, with an amount of 2.142 million euros allocated specifically for this purpose.

In addition to the existing utility lines for electricity, gas, and data, the new bridge will carry a district heating line of the Landshut City Works across the Kleine Isar. This integration aims to ensure the city's efficient and sustainable energy supply.

The construction of this new bridge is a significant step towards improving Landshut's infrastructure and promoting cycling as a key part of the city's mobility and climate policies. With its innovative design and increased safety measures, the new bridge is set to become a landmark in the city.
