Proposal Approved for Directive on Commission's New Regulation
In the heart of Pforzheim, an information booth has been set up by the city's waste management to educate residents about the separate collection of organic waste. This initiative is a part of Pforzheim's commitment to the environment and the energy transition.
The city has learned from past experiences, such as the difficulties encountered during a system change in 2013. To prevent recurrence, organic waste bins are being distributed gradually across the city. By the end of the year, it is planned that all households will have received their organic waste bins.
Property owners have the option to form a bin community for shared organic waste bins, making it practical and efficient for the entire property. Composters who process organic waste themselves are not obligated to use an organic waste bin, but must confirm this in writing upon request.
The separate collection of organic waste in Pforzheim is mandatory since January 1, 2015, as stated in § 11, paragraph 1 of the Circular Economy Act. The city collects approximately 3,000 tons of recyclable waste annually through this initiative.
The organic waste collected in Pforzheim is taken to the biowaste fermentation plant in the county of Freudenstadt. Here, organic waste is fermented and converted into biogas, which is used to generate electricity and heat. The remaining materials from the fermentation process are composted and used as fertilizer.
This process not only reduces waste but also saves money, as the emptying of an organic waste bin is cheaper than a similarly sized residual waste bin. However, bins that are incorrectly filled will not be emptied and must be disposed of at the owner's expense.
For more information, residents can visit the Pforzheim waste management's website, where the information provided on Thursday at the information booth on the market square is archived. Please note that phone and contact information, as well as event dates, may no longer be current.
By participating in the separate collection of organic waste, residents of Pforzheim are contributing to a greener future. Together, we can make a difference.
