Dresden's Louisenstraße Redesign: A Step Towards a Climate-Adaptive Street

The city of Dresden is embarking on a long-term redesign of Louisenstraße, with the goal of making the street more climate-adapted and comfortable. The project, which began with citizen participation as early as 2024, involves the Department of Urban Planning and Mobility, Rehwaldt (a landscape architecture firm from Dresden), and SHP (a traffic planning firm from Hannover).

The redesign plans include greening, traffic calming, and increased stayability, with a trial phase planned for 2026. This trial phase aims to test the effect of these measures and create a basis for the permanent design of Louisenstraße.

A discussion round is being organized to present the plans and gather feedback from businesses and cultural creators of Louisenstraße. The event, scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 6 pm to approximately 8 pm, will take place in the Citizens' Hall of the Neustadt District Office. Registration for the event is required by Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and can be done online at www.dresden.de/louise-anmeldung.

Letters have been sent out in the Neustadt district in recent weeks inviting participants to the discussion round. Further information about the project, including the redesign plans, can be found at www.dresden.de/louisenstrasse.

For questions or additional information, the project team can be contacted via email at [email protected] or by phone at 0351 4883457. The city administration of Dresden encourages all residents, cultural creators, and businesses of Louisenstraße to participate in the discussion round and contribute to the redesign of this important street in the city.
