Proposal passed for a directive harmonizing state laws aiming to safeguard waterways from contamination by diesel engine gas emissions across member states.
The Water Maintenance Association (WMA) in Regensburg is undergoing a significant change, as announced by its long-standing managing director, Klaus Weindl. After many years of service, Weindl will be completing measures in construction sections 10 and 48 before leaving his position as an employee.
The WMA, which has been in existence since 1976, is responsible for the care and maintenance of all third-order waters between the Altmühl, the Great and Little Laber, the Isar, the Vils, and the Bina. This includes the entire network of brooks and small watercourses within this area. However, due to certain restrictions, the "Regensburg Model" can only be partially implemented in the WMA's association area.
The engineering firm Dietlmeier, which has cooperated successfully with the WMA for many years, has now completed its activities with the association. The responsibility of water maintenance in the Kelheim district, currently handled by Dietlmeier, will be taken over by the Landkreis Kelheim (Kelheim district authorities).
In a recent vote, 36 municipalities voted for the continuation of the WMA, with only three municipalities from the county of Dingolfing-Landau remaining as members. This reduction in membership will result in a future total of 16 members.
The county of Kelheim will also entrust the local landscape maintenance association with water maintenance. The chairman of the WMA, Josef Klaus, has stated that his municipal administration could take over Weindl's tasks.
The WMA's responsibilities extend beyond just the maintenance of watercourses. They also include the care and maintenance of local nature's lifelines. The association will consider both the needs of nature and the economy in its work.
Keeping these watercourses intact is a legal obligation of the municipalities according to state law. The WMA's work is crucial for the health and well-being of the local ecosystems, and its continued operation is essential for maintaining these vital waterways.
With the departure of Klaus Weindl and the transition of responsibilities, the WMA is entering a new phase. The intermunicipal cooperation across county borders is being realigned, and the association is looking forward to continuing its important work in the care and maintenance of the region's watercourses.
