In the cultural realm, a new six-field sports hall was officially opened at Dösner Weg today, marking the completion of a significant portion of the community school campus. The project, which cost a total of 110 million euros, will be available for use by students moving in from the school year 2027/2028, as well as neighboring schools and sports clubs. Saxon Minister of Culture Conrad Clemens highlighted the modern building's ability to ensure school sports lessons for several schools and accommodate club sports.
Meanwhile, in the political sphere, the "resist" alliance has taken a stand against the planned founding of the Gießen youth branch of the AfD. The organization "widersetzen" announced a protest against the founding of the Young AfD (Junge AfD) in Gießen, scheduled for November 29-30, 2025. Actions include a banner campaign and calls for resistance against the youth association's establishment. A several-meter-large banner with the inscription "Stop AfD youth! We resist!" was displayed at the Bastei in the Saxon Switzerland in protest.
Unfortunately, incidents of unconstitutional behaviour have been reported. Two young men, aged 21 and 25, were apprehended in Leipzig-Schoenau yesterday morning for shouting unconstitutional slogans. In a more disturbing incident, a 21-year-old man painted two unconstitutional symbols on another person's forehead. The police have initiated investigations into these incidents.
In other news, the Enquete Commission on the Review of the Corona Crisis and associated measures began its work today. The commission's role is to evaluate the government's handling of the pandemic and make recommendations for future preparedness.
On a positive note, the Free State of Saxony is supporting a project with around 5.2 million euros. The project involves the reconstruction of the Georg-Schwarz-Bridges, which will commence on September 29.
