Protesters comprising of grandmothers are taking a stand against the right-wing political faction in Dusseldorf, actions occurring prior to the upcoming Bundestag elections
In the heart of Germany, a diverse group of citizens is rallying together to voice their concerns about the current political climate. The demonstration, scheduled for February 15th, will take place at Schadowplatz and is aimed at standing against the AfD and the perceived right-wing shift in society.
The organiser of this movement, Grandmas Against the Right, is a well-known and large initiative advocating for democracy across Germany. Based in Düsseldorf, the group includes many men and women who are united in their belief in the importance of democratic values.
The group was recently seen outside the town hall, engaging with passersby, emphasising the need to preserve democracy in the upcoming federal election. A photograph of this moment, capturing the spirit of their campaign, was taken by Christiane May.
The demonstration on February 15th will start at 12 pm in front of the DGB house on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, with the goal of reaching Corneliusplatz. The event is expected to be family-friendly, with a family-friendly block organised by Grandmas Against the Right.
The group is concerned about the AfD's increasingly radical statements and the potential danger they pose to democratic achievements and the foundation of societal coexistence. They believe that the current majorities in the Bundestag could jeopardise these values, and everyone is urged to protest against the AfD's large event on the same day.
The CDU and their allies have been criticised for their stance on migration, with some parties equating refugees fleeing war, hunger, and misery with criminals. However, there is no mention from the CDU and co. about the current decrease in asylum applications or the decline in femicides in Germany, committed by perpetrators of various origins.
Meanwhile, the AfD is accused of focusing on migration as the biggest problem in Germany, while ignoring real issues such as housing shortages, economic crisis, and the dismantling of social infrastructure.
Grandmas Against the Right advocates for democracy and the rule of law, cultural diversity, tolerance, respectful coexistence, and responsible environmental management. They urge all eligible voters to vote for centrist democratic parties in the upcoming election, as the preservation of democracy is at stake.
