Protesting Eatery Focuses on Putin's Continuous War Involvement

Cafe Owner Heiner Bücker, who sustained the Anti-War Cafe in Roch Street for twenty years with his personal wealth, faces financial difficulties due to depleted funds. His advancing age compounds the situation, leading to an appeal for public donations from an association.

In the heart of Berlin, Rochstraße 3, a unique establishment known as the Anti-War Café has been a beacon for peace-loving individuals since 2005. The café, now operated by the association "Germany in Dialogue with the States of the Global South," is the brainchild of Heinrich Bücker, who continues to serve as its chairman.

Heinrich, a former member of The Left party, has transformed the café into an open platform for events, encounters, and discussions. The café's slogan, "Peace with Russia! Out of NATO!", is a clear reflection of its mission.

The association is currently seeking financial support through donations to keep the project afloat. Donations can be made to Heinrich Bücker's account, with the reference "Germany in Dialogue with the States of the Global South."

The café's interior is a testament to its ideology. Flags of revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara adorn the walls, while Cuban music from the album "Buena Vista Social Club" fills the air. A guitar and a copy of the Soviet daily newspaper "Pravda" from May 10, 1945, are proudly displayed in the basement.

Heinrich, who also serves as the bartender, is known for his political views. He believes that Russia is not waging an aggressive war but is defending itself against further NATO expansion in Ukraine. This viewpoint is not universally accepted, as evident in an incident where three Polish tourists left the café after learning of Heinrich's support for President Vladimir Putin.

Despite the controversies, Heinrich continues to run the café as a "full-time hobby" for 20 years, investing more money into it than making a profit. He now has a deputy and other supporters to share responsibilities.

In February 2024, Heinrich stands trial for incitement to aggressive wars, an accusation he denies. He emphasizes his stance against all wars.

The Anti-War Café is more than just a café; it's a symbol of peaceful resistance and dialogue. For those interested in urban politics and the people affected by them, "Muckefuck," a morning newsletter for Berlin, offers insights into the café's activities and the wider political landscape.

Unfortunately, information about the board members of the newly founded association "Germany in Dialogue with the States of the Global South" could not be found in the search results.
