PSG Dawning New Era in 2025-2026, With Paulo César Sidelined and High-Ranking Officals Exiting
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is embarking on a new season with a renewed focus, aiming to rebuild after a tumultuous campaign. The Italian sporting director of the club has expressed optimism, citing the return of key player Anaïs Ebayilin and a more balanced team as reasons for the rejuvenation.
However, the optimism is tempered by recent setbacks. The Coupe de France final on May 3 saw the PSG fall to Paris FC with a score of 0-0 and 4-5 on penalties. The absence of players such as Sakina Karchaoui and Grace Geyoro, who have been excluded from the group for several weeks, was undoubtedly a factor in the defeat.
The summer preparation has been a challenging one for the PSG, with the team mainly composed of young players. The coach, Paulo César, has maintained his trust in the squad, expressing his desire to build something strong with an irreproachable attitude every day.
Despite this, the PSG has struggled during the summer preparation, suffering losses against Lens (1-2), Aston Villa (1-1), and Anderlecht (1-3). The team's fortunes took a turn when they managed a clear victory (6-0) against Ajax Amsterdam, providing a much-needed boost of confidence.
The PSG has seen several high-profile departures, with Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Korbin Albert choosing to join OL Lyon, and Grace Geyoro being sold to London City Lionesses. Geyoro, one of the team's captains, left the club in September 2025, citing the project's lack of direction as her reason for departure.
In an effort to strengthen the squad, the PSG has completed the transfers of Olga Carmona (ex-Real Madrid) and Rasheedat Ajibade (ex-Atlético de Madrid). Ajibade, the African champion striker, was voted best player of the CAN.
The departure of Geyoro, like that of others before her, has raised concerns about the PSG's stability. Paulo César, however, remains confident in his squad, stating that he is proud of the team he has. Unlike Geyoro, Sakina Karchaoui was named captain by Paulo César, a testament to her leadership and commitment to the club.
The PSG's journey towards rebuilding and regaining its former glory continues, with the new season promising to be an exciting one.
