Public Service Society Ordered to Announce Recruitment of 500 Nurse Positions as Performed by Wavinya
In the midst of a 12-day-long nurses' strike that has disrupted healthcare services in Machakos County, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has taken a proactive step towards addressing the crisis. The County Government of Machakos has initiated the hiring process for 500 nurses, with the process set to be escalated to the County Public Service Board for recruitment.
The advertisement for these positions has been directed by Governor Wavinya Ndeti to the County Public Service Board. This move comes as a response to the healthcare crisis caused by the strike, with the governor expressing her concern over the disruption of services.
However, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has been embroiled in a public spat with Senator Agnes Kavindu, who has been critical of her administration's handling of the nurses' strike. In a recent development, the governor has accused nurses' union officials of working with certain unnamed politicians to disrupt her government. In response, Michael Saka, secretary of the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives Machakos Chapter, urged Governor Wavinya Ndeti to engage in open dialogue with the nurses to end the current crisis.
Meanwhile, the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives has expressed its readiness to dialogue with the County government of Machakos. In a surprising turn of events, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed union deductions for the Kenya National Union of Nurses and Midwives to cease pending the streamlining of union contribution procedure.
In a separate matter, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called upon Senator Agnes Kavindu to focus on resolving the issue of unbundling devolved functions and funds in Machakos County. She has also challenged Senator Kavindu to work harder in driving legislation that favors the allocation of more resources to the counties.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti has also suggested that Senator Kavindu should work towards legislation that automatically reimburses hospitals Social Health Authority (SHA) funds to prevent cash challenges in hospitals. This suggestion comes as a response to the financial strain that the nurses' strike has put on the county's healthcare system.
To further address the healthcare crisis, the government of Machakos has appointed a health crisis manager. The exact role and responsibilities of this crisis manager are yet to be disclosed.
Despite the accusations levelled against the nurses' union officials, no new information has been provided regarding Governor Wavinya Ndeti accusing them of working with certain unnamed politicians. Similarly, no new information has been provided about the nurses' strike lasting for 12 days or about the County Government of Machakos hiring 500 nurses. It is hoped that these developments will help in resolving the ongoing healthcare crisis in Machakos County.
