In a fascinating shift, Quentin Tarantino's later work appears to lean towards grander genre epics. This transformation is evident in his acclaimed films such as "Inglourious Basterds" and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood."

Tarantino himself considers "Inglourious Basterds" his masterpiece, a testament to the film's impact and quality. Interestingly, he also ranks "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" as his best script, and surprisingly, his personal favourite among his own creations.

"Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" and "Inglourious Basterds" share dovetailing themes, offering a unique perspective on injustice and providing empowering catharsis about such injustices in the cultural imagination. Both films can be seen as how a child would rewrite history, if that were possible.

Tarantino's early career was marked by precise pulp examinations, with "Pulp Fiction" being a standout example. However, it seems that in his later years, he has been drawn to the grander genre epics.

Among his later works, "Kill Bill." holds a special place for Tarantino. He considers it the classic Tarantino film and even states that "Kill Bill" is the movie he was born to make.

Intriguingly, Tarantino also considers "The Hateful Eight" to have an aspect that is his best directing of his material. This high regard for "The Hateful Eight" might come as a surprise, given that he ranks "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" and "Inglourious Basterds" above it in terms of script and personal preference.

This re-conceptualization of Tarantino's career through his cinematic preferences offers a fresh perspective on his body of work, highlighting the evolution and continuity in his storytelling.
