In the ongoing Eurobasket 2025 tournament, a regrettable incident occurred during the game between Germany and Lithuania in Tampere, Finland. The German national team captain, Dennis Schröder, was subjected to racist heckling from some Lithuanian fans during halftime.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) swiftly responded to the incident, identifying the suspect through video footage and banning them from attending any further Eurobasket 2025 games. The person's name has not been publicly disclosed.

Schröder, in an interview with MagentaSport, stated that the monkey noises are a step too far and do not respect or accept racism. He reported that he had experienced racist heckling from the stands after the game.

The German Basketball Federation (DBB) also reported that two people were ejected from the arena after the German coaching staff alerted security.

FIBA has provided the relevant footage and information to the authorities. They have also pledged to contact the Lithuanian team's delegation to inform them about the situation and support efforts to prevent similar incidents at future games.

Unrelated to the basketball tournament, the city of Hamm in Germany is currently experiencing high unemployment rates, not seen for a long time. However, there is a positive trend in housing construction in Hamm. The city is also promoting sustainable mobility through the Hamm Bike Challenge 2025.

This incident serves as a reminder that racism has no place in sports or any aspect of life. FIBA's swift action and commitment to preventing such incidents are commendable and set a positive example for other sports organisations to follow.
