Racing Debut of [ROOKIE Racing]: An Insight Into Their Venture on the Track

In the final race of the 2020 Super Taikyu Series, held at the Autopolis International Racing Course in Oita Prefecture, Japan, ROOKIE Racing clinched the championship in the ST-2 class. The GR Yaris, driven by Takuto Iguchi, Masahiro Sasaki, and team leader Akio Toyoda (also known as "Morizo"), proved its mettle, completing 140 laps without a hitch during the five-hour endurance race.

The race began at 10:40 a.m., with Sasaki behind the wheel of the GR Yaris and Daisuke Toyoda driving the GR Supra. Despite a minor issue that was investigated by mechanics before the start of driving on Friday, the GR Supra completed 142 laps problem-free.

In the final stages of the race, Morizo demonstrated deft pace control, carefully conceding racing lines to other racers. In the last 20 minutes, he gave it another go, pushing the GR Yaris to its limits.

Meanwhile, Morizo hand-delivered a birthday cake to a ROOKIE Racing staff member during the weekend at Autopolis, expressing appreciation for everyone's hard work this season and emphasizing the team's camaraderie.

The team manager for ROOKIE Racing in the Super Taikyu series in 2020 was Noriaki Mitsuhashi, who also documented the team's journey throughout the season as a team member. Mitsuhashi aimed to capture a symbolic shot of ROOKIE Racing's journey in 2020.

Safety measures were also in place at Autopolis. Following concerns about the danger of the guardrail voiced at a drivers meeting last year, a shock-absorbing tire barrier was installed.

Before the final race, all of the team's drivers gathered around the GR Yaris on the grid. As Morizo was asked to control his pace to ensure the perfect photograph, the team celebrated their impending victory.

With the championship win, the GR Yaris and its drivers became champions in their class, marking a successful end to the 2020 Super Taikyu Series for ROOKIE Racing.
