Racing syndicate Middleham Park deeply disheartened as prime St Leger competitor Lazy Griff is withdrawn due to an unfortunate setback

In a surprising turn of events, Middleham Park Racing's contender, Lazy Griff, will not be running in the upcoming Betfred St Leger race. The horse, earmarked for the race since finishing second to Lambourn in the Derby at Epsom, has been forced to take a break due to a small setback. As a result, Lazy Griff is expected to have the rest of the year off, with plans to return next season for a long-distance campaign.

Middleham Park Racing manager Mike Prince expressed his disappointment about Lazy Griff's absence, stating that they believed he had a big chance to win. This development is a significant blow for the race, as Lazy Griff was the second favourite for the Betfred St Leger race, with odds of no bigger than 4-1.

With Lazy Griff out of the race, Aidan O'Brien's Scandinavia has taken the favourite spot. Scandinavia, trained by O'Brien, is the 5-4 favourite for the Betfred St Leger race with bet365. This strengthens O'Brien's dominance in the race, as he has won the Betfred St Leger on eight occasions, including the last two years with Continuous and Jan Brueghel.

O'Brien also has another contender in the race, Stay True, who has odds of 9-1. Interestingly, three horses trained by O'Brien, including Scandinavia, are entered in the Melbourne Cup as well.

Lambourn, the horse that beat Lazy Griff in the Derby, is now the second favourite for the Betfred St Leger race, with odds of 7-2. Other contenders in the race have odds of 33 or higher. Among these, Arabian Force has odds of 14, and Carmers, trained by Paddy Twomey, is available at 5-1.

As the Betfred St Leger race approaches, the focus will now shift to the other contenders. With Aidan O'Brien's strong presence in the race, it promises to be an exciting event.
