Racing Tips for Sha Tin on Sunday: Selections by Jim McGrath in Hong Kong

Sha Tin Racecourse is set for an action-packed day on Sunday, 7th September, 2025. The first race kicks off at 6am, and among the many exciting contests, the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup promises to be a highlight.

In this prestigious race, Ka Ying Rising, a gelding trained by David Hayes, will defend its title. The world's highest-rated sprinter will be ridden by eight-time champion jockey Zac Purton. Ka Ying Rising will face tough competition, with 11 rivals in total, eight of whom are out of the handicap. Beauty Waves, which finished runner-up to Ka Ying Rising last year, is one such contender.

Another previous winner, Lucky Sweynesse, and Victor The Winner will also be in the race, making it a closely fought contest. Ka Ying Rising, however, showed its form in its last outing, where it finished second despite a wide draw. If it gets a good run in the race, it is expected to be hard to beat.

In the same 6f handicap at Sha Tin, China Win, also trained by David Hayes, is the next best contender.

In the 7f handicap, Mark Newnham, a trainer, has a strong contender in Bull Attitude. Lyle Hewitson will be in the saddle for this race.

Invincible Ibis, trained by Mark Newnham, will also be in action at Sha Tin. The horse failed to overcome a wide draw last time but showed promise by running strongly for second place, with only two horses ahead at halfway. Invincible Ibis has a favorable starting position (stall 5) in the 6f handicap at Sha Tin, with odds of 9.10.
