In an unexpected turn of events, seven individuals suspected of metal theft were apprehended by the Federal Police near Brieselang, Havelland. The arrests were made following the reported theft of approximately five tons of copper cables from a railway track.

The incident occurred overnight on Sunday, with the suspects, aged between 19 and 41, loading the stolen goods into a small van around 00:20 AM. Their suspicious activity was observed by civilian officers.

Subsequent investigations led the officers to stop three Poland-registered vans later in Staffelde, Vehlefanz, and on the A24 motorway. Among the seven suspects, two men had outstanding warrants for property offenses and driving without a license.

The Federal Police confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were temporarily detained on Sunday. The stolen copper cables were not recovered at the time of the report.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of metal theft, which not only causes significant disruptions to infrastructure but also poses a risk to public safety. The Federal Police continue to urge vigilance and encourage the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
