In a passionate speech at the Festa do Avante rally, Paulo Raimundo, the secretary-general of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), accused the governing parties, including the Socialist Party (PS), of engaging with the government in a way that tries to halt right-wing politics through obstruction rather than through active leftist embrace.

Raimundo depicted Chega, a right-wing political party, as the can-opener for the worst of right-wing politics. He further characterized Chega as a "factory of lies" and suggested that it is a tool created by the system to accelerate its own objectives.

The PS, according to Raimundo, is vying to be the favored partner of the State Budget, a document that he claims would lead to attacks on public services, accelerate the dismantling of the National Health Service (NHS), and keep the country content with low wages and pensions.

Raimundo accused the PS of elbowing with Chega to see who's more complicit with the government. He also stated that the government functions like a business agency for economic groups, with the State Budget designed to promote privatizations.

The Partido Socialista, as a socialist political party, is expected to prioritize the protection and expansion of public services, wages, and pensions. However, Raimundo's speech raises concerns about the PS's alignment with the government's economic policies.

The Initiative Liberal, serving as an ideological hare for the executive, was also criticized by Raimundo for its role in the government's policies. He described the PSD and CDS, the two main governing parties, as mere pawns in the government's agenda.

Raimundo warned that right-wing politics are not fought by embracing them, but by stopping them in their tracks. His speech at the Festa do Avante rally has sparked a debate about the direction of Portuguese politics and the role of the Socialist Party in the current government.
