Rain forecasted for Thailand next week

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for several provinces in Thailand, as the swollen Yom River poses a flood threat in the coming days. The regions at risk include northern provinces like Chiang Mai, which has been affected by landslides and mudslides due to Tropical Storm Kajiki, as well as low-lying and river-adjacent areas in Bangkok and the eastern provinces of Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat.

Storm Kajiki has already taken a toll on the country, leaving seven people dead and five others missing in northern provinces. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported the casualties caused by the storm. Sukhothai, one of the hardest-hit areas due to Kajiki, has seen the Yom River overflow, inundating five districts and the Muang municipality.

The intensified rainfall raises the risk of flash floods and runoff in several regions of Thailand. The prediction is based on the current weather conditions and weather patterns, with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam and a mild southwesterly wind from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand driving the rain.

The warning of sudden flooding and runoff applies to all regions of Thailand, excluding the southern provinces. The Meteorological Department predicts rainfall to intensify in Thailand next week, but did not specify which regions are at high risk or provide information about the expected amount of rainfall.

In Greater Bangkok, the chance of rain will increase from 40% on Friday to 70% on Sunday. The Meteorological Department did not mention any precautionary measures being taken to prepare for the intensified rainfall.

Authorities have warned that provinces downstream could face flood threats from the swollen Yom River in the coming days, but no specific precautionary measures regarding the intensified rainfall have been mentioned by the Meteorological Department. The people in the threatened areas are advised to stay alert and follow any instructions from local authorities.
