Rampant Danger: Out of every ten individuals, one suffers fatalities or severe injuries due to reckless behavior
In recent times, a concerning trend has emerged in the city of Chemnitz and its surrounding areas - "S-Bahn surfing." This dangerous activity, which involves individuals boarding and riding on the roofs of trains, has resulted in a series of serious or even fatal accidents.
The Federal Police Inspectorate in Chemnitz has taken notice of this trend and is taking active steps to address it. In a press release, they issued a warning about the dangers of "S-Bahn surfing," citing incidents in Meerane and Flöha as examples.
In the Meerane incident, a male individual was observed on the buffer of a regional express train. This incident, among others, led to the Federal Police initiating an investigation procedure. Similarly, another "S-Bahn surfing" case was registered by the Federal Police in the area of Flöha in June of the same year, prompting an investigation in response.
The risks associated with "S-Bahn surfing" are numerous. People often end up under the train, collide with obstacles, or oncoming trains during these incidents. The high speeds involved make holding on almost impossible, increasing the likelihood of falls. Moreover, trains are not designed to hold on to their outer parts, making the activity even more hazardous.
An additional risk is the potential for electric shock from the overhead line, which carries 15,000 volts. Accidents with this voltage are almost always fatal.
The Federal Police Inspectorate in Chemnitz is urging the public to stay aware of these dangers and to refrain from participating in "S-Bahn surfing." For further inquiries, they can be contacted at 0371 4615 105 or via email at [email protected].
It is essential to remember that "S-Bahn surfing" is not a harmless thrill-seeking activity. It poses significant risks to individuals and should be avoided at all costs. Let us all work together to keep our communities safe.
