RB in Turmoil: Struggles and Hardships Revealed
RB Leipzig Secures Danish Talent Conrad Harder as Replacement for Lois Openda
RB Leipzig has announced the signing of Danish center forward Conrad Harder, who brings international experience to the German club. The 25-year-old, standing at 1.85 meters tall, joins Leipzig as a replacement for Lois Openda, who is leaving the club on loan with a purchase obligation.
Marcel Schäfer, sporting director of RB Leipzig, expressed his delight at the new addition, stating that Harder fits perfectly into their profile. Harder, described as tall, physically and mentally strong, assertive, and having a very dangerous left foot, was previously with Sporting Lisbon.
Harder had a strong debut season with 28 goals, but scored only 13 goals in all competitions last season. Despite the dip in form, his performances were enough to earn him a call-up to the Danish national team in March.
Meanwhile, Openda joined Leipzig two years ago for a transfer fee of 40 million euros and his contract runs until 30 June 2028. However, after a strong debut season, Openda scored only 13 goals in all competitions last season, leading to his departure from the club.
In addition to the arrival of Harder, RB Leipzig has also confirmed the departure of Lutsharel Geertruida, who is joining AFC Sunderland on loan. Geertruida had joined Leipzig last summer but failed to establish himself on the right-back position.
Eljif Elmas, who had joined Leipzig in January 2024 from Napoli, is also returning to his former club. The midfielder had already been loaned out to Italian first division club FC Turin in the second half of the season, but failed to make an impact in the 22 games he played.
The next RB Leipzig head coach, announced for the 2025/26 season, is Ole Werner, who takes over following a turbulent 2024/25 season. Werner is tasked with restoring the team's identity and long-term project belief.
The transfer of Openda to Juventus Turin was delayed and announced late in the evening. The total transfer package for Openda is said to be significantly over 40 million euros.
Harder has signed a contract with RB Leipzig until 2030, and he is eager to make an impact at the club. With the arrival of Harder and the departure of Openda, Leipzig fans are looking forward to a new chapter in the club's history.
