Recognized and Celebrated: School Bus Drivers for Their Commitment
In a heartwarming celebration at the City Bath, the Deputy Mayor Dr. Thomas Haslinger, Police Chief Inspector Thomas Simbürger, Michael Rott, and Michaela Leicht, project coordinator of the Landshut Volunteer Agency, thanked the committed young volunteers of the "cool2school" project for their invaluable contributions during the school year.
The "cool2school" project, a collaboration between the Landshut Volunteer Agency, City Works, the Traffic Safety Association, and the police, trains students from Landshut schools to serve as school bus guides. These young volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining order at bus stops and on city buses operated by Landshut City Works. They assist in mediating conflicts, providing essential support for bus drivers in school traffic.
Last year, 37 participants took part in the project, and many more have signed up for the 2024/25 school year. These students received a volunteer certificate and a token of appreciation from City Works, which could be a ten-entry card for the City Bath or a free monthly travel ticket for August.
The follow-up seminar by the police taught the school bus guides civil courage and de-escalation techniques to ensure their continued safety and effectiveness. The school bus guides were also trained annually by the Traffic Safety Association to ensure they are well-equipped for their roles.
The organisers emphasised the importance of volunteer work for social cohesion. Projects like "cool2school" were valued for their contributions to the community and the development of responsible, active citizens.

The event included a shared lunch for the attendees, making it a memorable celebration to mark the end of the school year. The "cool2school" project will continue in the next school year, thanks to the generous funding from the Dominik Brunner Foundation, founded by Manfred Lautenschläger.
