Record-breaking Gambling Revenue in Brazil surpasses $3.2 billion within the first six months of the year
The igaming and sports betting market in Brazil, which commenced operations on January 1, 2023, has generated a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of BRL17.4 billion ($3.2 billion) in the first half of the year, according to data reported by Kyle Goldsmith of iGaming Business and the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA).
The launch of the online market followed six months of operators applying for licenses and meeting strict regulations. The government authority responsible for the licensing and supervision of online betting and iGaming businesses in Brazil is the Ministry of Finance (Brasilianischer Finanzminister).
The SPA reported that 17.7 million Brazilians wagered with licensed operators during the first six months of the market. The demographic most engaged in betting was those aged between 31 and 40, representing 27.8% of the total number of bettors. Interestingly, 71% of the Brazilians who wagered with licensed operators were men, while 28.9% were female.
The licensed igaming and sports betting market in Brazil has seen significant engagement since its inception.
