Recreational activities, companionship, and dedication define the free time pursuits of youth in Münster

The city of Münster recently conducted an online survey with 12- to 18-year-olds about their leisure activities. Approximately 4,400 young people participated in the survey, providing valuable insights into their leisure preferences.

As a token of appreciation for their participation, the city of Münster held a draw among all participants. The winners of the draw were announced and received their awards on August 26, 2025, at 14:00 at Gleis 22 of the Youth Information and Education Center in Münster. A photo of the award ceremony was taken by Stadt Münster/Münsterview and is available for free publication.

The survey results will be integrated into the development of the new children and youth support plan. This plan guides the development of leisure, educational, and participation offers for young people in Münster. Bernhard Paschert, head of the department for children, young people, and families, states that the feedback from the survey helps understand the reality of young people's lives better.

The survey revealed that spending leisure time with friends is popular among 86% of the surveyed young people. Around 35% of the young people are involved in a club, youth group, or association, and approximately 12% are specifically active in youth association work.

Interestingly, around 81% of the participants report regularly engaging in sports such as cycling, swimming, or playing football. Additionally, around 82% of young people support their families in their free time.

Offers from children and youth centers are used by approximately 6% of those surveyed. Bernhard Paschert, head of the department for children, young people, and families, was present at the award ceremony for the draw winners, along with Maike Wille, Mia Aupers, Sophie Pape, and Maike Ingenfeld.

The feedback from the survey will aid in the further development of offers and participation opportunities for young people in Münster, ensuring that their needs and preferences are met in the city's leisure, educational, and participation offers.
