Red Bulls' goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and Crew player Patrick Schulte engage in a scoreless stalemate during their duel.

In a closely contested match, the New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew played out a scoreless draw at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.

The Red Bulls' goalkeeper, Carlos Coronel, notched his ninth shutout of the season, saving the only shot he faced for the home team. Coronel's impressive performance kept the Red Bulls' clean sheet tally for the season at 11, the team's 11th draw of the campaign.

The Red Bulls, who are currently holding the final postseason spot in the ninth position in the Eastern Conference, have had an impressive season at home. They extended their record to 10-2-3 at the Red Bull Arena this season, maintaining their strong form in front of their home fans.

On the other side, Columbus, who were placed seventh in the Eastern Conference, came into the game with a record of 12-6-10. The Crew's goalkeeper, Patrick Schulte, made three saves in the first half and went on to earn his third clean sheet of the season, his third in total this season.

Schulte's impressive performance was a continuation of his form, having previously prevented a goal against the Chicago Fire before earning his third clean sheet for Columbus Crew on the 12th matchday.

The game marked the Crew's third draw in their last six visits to the Red Bulls, with the defending conference champion Red Bulls unable to find a breakthrough against a resilient Columbus defence.

Emil Forsberg's run of five consecutive matches with a goal contribution for the Red Bulls came to an end in this game, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.

Looking ahead, both teams have matches scheduled for September 13. Columbus will face Atlanta United, while the Red Bulls will take on the Portland Timbers. As the season reaches its climax, both teams will be eager to return to winning ways and boost their playoff prospects.

The Red Bulls have the most home wins since 2018, and they will be hoping to continue their strong form at the Red Bull Arena when they face the Timbers next month. Meanwhile, Columbus will be aiming to climb up the Eastern Conference table when they face Atlanta United.
