In an exciting turn of events, Skoda designer Julien Petitseigneur has unveiled a modern reinterpretation of the 1990s Felicia Fun ute. Petitseigneur, a French interior designer at Škoda, spent around two weeks working mainly in the evenings to bring this project to life, using AI tools combined with hand refinement.

The new concept, dubbed the Felicia Fun ute, features a distinctive design that pays homage to the original while embracing the 'Modern Solid' design language. The front of the new concept boasts the Tech-Deck Face grille and slim, T-shaped LED headlights. The rear retains the full-width spoiler of the original but replaces the trim strip in the tailgate with a light bar that emits neon pink light.

The new ute showcases a wide stance, aerodynamic wheels, and chunky black bumpers, sills, and wheel arch cladding, contrasting with the yellow bodywork. A nod to the original's unique character, the green frog motif adorns the B-pillar, symbolising fun, freedom, and the outdoors.

The interior of the new concept is equally impressive. The full-width dashboard screen features old-school video game-style graphics, designed to resemble a modern reinterpretation of the chunky CRT monitors from the original car's era. The screens are framed by neon pink wheel highlights and glass tints, adding a touch of modern flair.

Although the new concept does not incorporate the original model's sliding rear bulkhead and additional open-air seating, it has proportions that would allow for them in a production-ready model. The Felicia Fun ute was a rare production vehicle, with only 4200 produced over three years. Although it was never sold new in New Zealand, there are used-import examples on the road.

Petitseigneur was inspired to create this rebooted version of the original Felicia Fun ute due to its 'pure fun' and unique character. Skoda has embraced this side-project, allowing Petitseigneur to reimagine the classic pickup and bring a touch of nostalgia to the modern world. The new Felicia Fun ute concept is a testament to Petitseigneur's creativity and Skoda's commitment to innovation.
