Redeveloped Three-acre Site: The Old Town Hall Transforms into a Peaceful Retreat
In the heart of Sprendlingen district, the town hall square has undergone a significant transformation, becoming a vibrant and inviting space for the community. The renovation project, part of the Hessian funding programme "Future City Centre," was completed on schedule and secured around 300,000 euros in funding, covering 80 percent of the total costs.
The redesign was carried out in a participatory process, allowing residents to contribute their ideas. The citizens voted for the "Classical" design in an online survey, from among three variants presented by a planning office. Existing design elements such as a mosaic and a sculpture of a paver have been retained, while a large pergola covered with climate-resistant plants has been installed, adding a touch of greenery to the square.
A new plaque now replaces the old stones, acknowledging the sponsors of the mosaic. The square now invites citizens to linger, with numerous seating options including a "hammock bench" for relaxation. The addition of the outdoor area is expected to further enhance the attractiveness of the square.
An outdoor area for the adjacent ice cream parlor is also planned for the warm season. The renovated square is now shining in a new light, just in time for the end of the funding period.
