Reduced expenses for school supplies and lunches observed in the year 2025.
In the world of school supplies and cafeteria items, there has been a mix of price changes in 2025.
According to unspecified data, the total cost of 15 common school supplies has seen a decrease of 7.05% compared to 2024. This drop is attributed to a steep fall in the price of construction paper, which has decreased by a significant 51.6%, making it more affordable for students.
However, not all school supplies have followed the same trend. Hand sanitizer, kids' scissors, a 12-inch ruler, washable glue, and dry markers have all experienced price increases since 2024. The price of markers, in particular, has recorded the largest increase, with a rise of 20.6%.
The cost of some school lunch items has also seen a shift. Pretzel twists, white bread, mayo, fruit snacks, and mozzarella cheese have slightly increased in price, while the cost of applesauce cups has decreased by 5.1% year-over-year. Interestingly, the price of popular lunch box staples has seen a modest 1.16% increase from 2024.
It's worth noting that the price of fine line markers and broadline markers has decreased, with reductions of 12.3% and 23.8% respectively. The prices of notebooks and folders, on the other hand, have remained unchanged from 2024.
School supplies saw a 3.6% price increase over the prior year in 2024, making the current decrease a welcome relief for many parents and students. The cafeteria prices, too, have shown a slight decrease, with a 3.34% year-over-year drop.
Despite the mixed changes, it appears that the overall trend for school supplies and cafeteria items in 2025 is a move towards more affordable prices, offering some good news for students and parents alike.
