Reduced Water Supply Upgrade in Allendorf: New Pipeline Installation
In the heart of Gießen, construction on a new drinking water main pipeline is set to commence. The project, a collaboration between the Middle Hesse Water Utilities and Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), will take place in the district of Allenorf, specifically in Kahlweg.
Originally scheduled to start in May 2025, the construction work will now begin on August 18, 2025. SWG, responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the drinking water network in Gießen, will oversee the construction.
The new pipeline will run beneath both the sidewalk and the roadway in Kahlweg. Due to the nature of the work, a section of the street will be closed for traffic, and some parking spaces in the affected areas will become unavailable. However, residents will still be able to drive up to the construction site.
Ulli Boos, spokesperson for SWG, acknowledges the potential inconveniences caused by the construction work and is committed to minimising noise and other disturbances. The completion of the new pipeline construction is expected by the end of September 2025, with the work planned to be completed within the scheduled time frame.
The sidewalks in the affected areas will only be partially usable during the construction period. To facilitate the movement of through traffic, a detour has been signed. SWG is responsible for the current infrastructure related to the drinking water supply in Gießen, and this new pipeline construction is part of their ongoing efforts to ensure a reliable supply of clean water.
