Reducing its commitment to auto racing, Honda makes significant changes to its motorsport legacy
In an exciting development for automotive enthusiasts, Honda Racing Corporation has partnered with UK scale model specialist Amalgam Collection to release a limited run of premium models of the iconic Honda RA272 F1 racing car.
The partnership saw Amalgam's team travel to the Honda Collection Hall in Motegi, Japan, where they obtained accurate digital scans of the original car. These scans, combined with hundreds of in-period photographs, were used to create the patterns for the models.
The models will be available in two sizes: 1:18 and 1:8. The smaller model, limited to 300 examples, costs US$1,735 (NZ$2,910). The 1:8 scale model, limited to just 30 examples, is a more exclusive and expensive option at US$28,995 (NZ$48,665).
These meticulously crafted models, built from 1600 parts including castings, photo-etchings, and CNC machined metal components, will be hand-painted with genuine car paints and archive color references. Each model is individually numbered with a certificate of authenticity.
The models will make their debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 15, with online sales beginning soon after. On August 16, they will also be available at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
Each model will be accompanied by a bespoke display case, certificate of authenticity, and a commemorative booklet signed by Koji Watanabe. While the exact identity of Koji Watanabe is not explicitly clear, it is known that he plays a significant role in the design process of various products.
Amalgam Collection is renowned for producing "unrivalled examples of the world's most iconic and luxurious cars at scale made using the finest quality materials." Their attention to detail and commitment to accuracy are evident in these limited-edition Honda RA272 models.
For those unable to attend Monterey Car Week, online sales will start shortly after the models' debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. These premium models are a must-have for any serious collector of F1 racing car memorabilia.
