Refugees receive introductory program at Dormagen's VHS establishment

Starting from August 25, the Volkshochschule (VHS) Dormagen will host an on-site orientation course for asylum seekers and newcomers. This initiative is a joint project of the VHS NRW state association, Dormagen VHS, and the city's department of integration and social affairs.

The orientation course is based on the "orientation and German learning" concept of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). It aims to help refugees and new arrivals gain security in their daily lives, benefiting both them and the community in Dormagen.

Classes will take place at the Christoph-Rensing School in Dormagen, from Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 to 12:45. The course consists of 300 units, each 45 minutes long, divided into six modules. Topics covered in the course include daily life, work, shopping, health, housing, school, media, mobility, customs and traditions, and values and coexistence.

Dennis Komainda, a competent teacher familiar with the local area, has been secured for the course. His expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the successful integration of the participants.

Niklas Christen, from the VHS NRW state association, expresses satisfaction about the partnership with Dormagen VHS for the orientation course in NRW. Dr. Torsten Spillmann, a city official, highlights the purpose of the course: "With this course, we're creating a low-threshold access to language and orientation right here."

The course is primarily for asylum seekers but is also open to other newcomers if there are available spots. Participants can be those who are not yet eligible for an integration course. The course will run until January 22, 2023.

This is not the first training program for refugees and newcomers in Dormagen. The institution that started a similar program on August 25, 2021, is the Volkshochschule (VHS) Dormagen, and the teacher responsible for this program is not specified in the available information.

The VHS NRW state association gains another partner in Dormagen VHS for the orientation course, ensuring comprehensive coverage. This collaboration is expected to provide a supportive environment for newcomers to Germany, fostering a sense of belonging and community in Dormagen.
