HTA Design to Transform Canterbury City with Landscape-Led Regeneration

The Canterbury Connected project, a landscape-led regeneration initiative in Canterbury City, has been commissioned by the local council. The project, which aims to reinforce Canterbury's position as a global destination and rejuvenate its strategic heritage sites, will be developed in collaboration with Canterbury City Council and a skilled team.

HTA Design, the lead creators of the Canterbury Connected project, recently won a competition to take on this significant role. This is not the first collaboration between HTA Design and a local council, as they previously worked on projects in Bromley and Greenwich. HTA Design's appointment for the Canterbury Connected project follows two months after their win for Bromley Council's project in South London.

The Connected Canterbury project received funding from the Department of Levelling Up in January 2023. James Lord, HTA Design partner for landscape, has expressed that the project will celebrate Canterbury's rich historic narratives, inspiring local pride, and creating a world-class destination. According to Lord, the project will also address the biodiversity emergency and preserve heritage for future generations.

Prior to the Canterbury Connected project, HTA Design completed an overhaul of the 8.1ha Cator Park, Kidbrooke Village, in the borough of Greenwich. The organization that was commissioned in 2021 to lead the redevelopment of the "Connected Canterbury" project is not specified here, and therefore, information about other projects the organization has successfully completed in the past four years is also not available.

Charlotte Cornell, a member of Canterbury City Council for heritage, has expressed that the current period is crucial for focusing on the designs of the various projects in the Canterbury Connected project. As the project progresses, inspirational ideas are expected to take shape over the coming weeks and months.

The Canterbury Connected project will not only revitalize the city but also reinforce Canterbury's position as a global destination and preserve its rich historical narratives for future generations. The project is set to deliver landscape-led regeneration across the city, making it a must-visit destination for tourists and locals alike.
