Registering Voters at Locations in Hogan Town

The College of the Holy Cross is making a concerted effort to ensure its students are well-informed and engaged in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election. The 2024 Elections Forum, an ongoing event series, was reintroduced in 2020 to help students prepare to vote.

On September 25, 2019, the Student Government Association (SGA), led by Co-Presidents Meredith Coolidge '19 and Adrian Cacho '19, hosted an event to support National Voter Registration Day. This initiative was part of Holy Cross' ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement among its students.

Recently, voter registration information was made available to students at the Government and Community relations table on the first floor of Hogan. The tables provided forms that could be filled out, printed, and mailed at the station. Students could also obtain voter registration and absentee ballot request forms at these tables.

For many Holy Cross students, a significant portion of the student population comes from a different state or country, so understanding the mail-in voting process is vital. Each state has different standards for their mail-in ballots, so students should consult their local standards which are available on each state's Board of Elections website.

In addition to the event, the College of the Holy Cross has been promoting TurboVote, a program tailored for the Holy Cross community to facilitate their voting process. Websites such as "VoteAmerica", "Vote.org", or "TurboVote" have quick, easy-to-understand information on which method of voting may work best for students.

The 2024 Elections Forum is designed to provide information and resources to help students make informed decisions about their voting choices. The forum aims to increase voter turnout among Holy Cross students and encourage political engagement. This upcoming election will be heavily impacted by the youth vote, and Holy Cross is working to keep the campus community engaged and informed.

The work of the voter registration tables is ensuring political engagement continues and spreads among Holy Cross students. Ben Reed, one of the students who took advantage of the tables, said, "It's important for students to have easy access to information about voter registration or absentee ballots, especially for those who are voting for the first time and potentially in a different state."

As the 2024 Presidential Election approaches, Holy Cross is committed to providing its students with the resources they need to make their voices heard. Deciding your method of voting and researching candidates is vital to having an impact as a generation and making individual voices heard.
