Reinforcing American Production Chain: Lucid Secures New Graphite Material Supply Contract with Graphite One

Lucid Group, Inc., the California-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of its vehicles and boosting American innovation by signing multi-year supply agreements with two American graphite companies: Graphite One and Syrah Resources.

The agreements, which span from 2026 to 2028, aim to strengthen Lucid's US-based supply chain and establish local supply for critical minerals. The focus on domestic sourcing aligns with Lucid's commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its vehicles.

Interim CEO at Lucid, Marc Winterhoff, stated, "These agreements support our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of Lucid vehicles by sourcing materials domestically."

Under the terms of the agreements, Graphite One will supply natural graphite from its facilities in the United States, with production expected to begin in 2028. The natural graphite will be sourced from the Graphite Creek deposit north of Nome, Alaska. Syrah Resources, on the other hand, will collaborate with Lucid or its battery suppliers to purchase the materials. Syrah's natural graphite AAM will be sourced from its vertically integrated AAM production facility in Vidalia, Louisiana.

Meanwhile, the synthetic graphite will be sourced from Graphite One's proposed active anode material (AAM) facility in Warren, Ohio. This marks a significant milestone, as it represents the first time a U.S. graphite developer has entered into a supply agreement with a U.S. electric vehicle company. The first such agreement was made with Graphite One in 2024.

Anthony Huston, CEO at Graphite One, confirmed the agreement as another example of Lucid's commitment to American innovation and manufacturing with localized supply chains. He added, "We are proud to be a part of Lucid's mission to create sustainable, high-performance electric vehicles."

This announcement follows Lucid's previous agreements with Graphite One for both natural and synthetic graphite, and it complements the company's ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles. Graphite, both synthetic and natural, composes a significant amount of the material within Lithium-Ion batteries and is essential for fast-charging performance.

These strategic partnerships further solidify Lucid's position as a leader in the electric vehicle industry, demonstrating its commitment to American manufacturing, innovation, and sustainability.
