Released on Vinyl for the First Time: Pink Floyd's Pompeii Performance from 1972

In a momentous event for music enthusiasts, Pink Floyd's 1971 performance in Pompeii's ancient Roman amphitheatre is set to be released on vinyl for the first time on the 2nd of May. This release marks a significant milestone, as it presents the band's performance, which was filmed without an audience in the historic ruins.

The restoration project was initiated after the discovery of the original 35mm cut negative within Pink Floyd's archives. Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, describes the restored film as "the first full 90-minute cut" that combines the original concert footage with additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments.

Steven Wilson has created new audio mixes in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround, and stereo formats for the release. The 2LP vinyl edition features the stereo mix spread across four sides, with the final side containing two bonus tracks. The price for the 2LP vinyl edition is $41 / £38 / AU$100.

The vinyl release allows music lovers to pair the performance with one of the best turntables, enhancing the listening experience. For those seeking guidance on turntables, our website features a list of 16 of the best-sounding vinyl records and expert reviews on the best turntables for 2025.

The remastered film landed in cinemas and IMAX worldwide from the 24th of April, ahead of the physical formats like the vinyl and Blu-ray versions releasing on the 2nd of May.
