Landshut, a city in Germany, is gearing up for the creation of a second action plan to maintain its status as a "Child-Friendly Municipality." The Steering Group, or Steuerungsgruppe, is overseeing the planning and implementation of this new plan.

The upcoming action plan is expected to contain up to 15 measures, building upon the success of the first plan which was implemented over the past three years. Some of the measures from the first plan, such as accompanied museum visits, the establishment of a youth council, neighbourhood walks, and active participation in the redesign of playgrounds, have been well-received and are now being used as "good practice" examples for other municipalities.

The new action plan will be developed from numerous ideas that have emerged within and outside the municipal administration. These ideas have great potential for the further development of the "Child-Friendly Municipality" in Landshut.

A workshop was held at the Old Barracks on Wednesday to review progress and prepare content for the continuation. The Mayor, Alexander Putz, praised the work and commitment of the participants. He looks forward to the further implementation of the new action plan, hand in hand with the children and young people who live in Landshut.

Landshut received the "Child-Friendly Municipality" seal from the eponymous association in August 2022. Since then, the city has been praised for its efforts, with some experts referring to it as a "lighthouse municipality." The Mayor, Alexander Putz, referred to the achievement as a "success story."

The city council unanimously voted to extend the seal and start a new implementation phase in April. The final report of the three-year implementation phase, including an application for extension, will follow at the end of June.

As the city council is expected to decide on the second action plan in spring 2026, Landshut continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating a city that is welcoming and beneficial for children and young people.
