Renowned Female Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Player Transitions to Unexpected Destination Abroad
In the world of competitive gaming, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) continues to dominate as the most played game on Steam and the best competitive first-person shooter of all time. On March 11, 2023, CS:GO broke its own concurrent player record, with an impressive 1,420,183 players playing simultaneously.
Amidst this surge in popularity, the CS:GO community is buzzing with excitement about the possibility of a new game, whether it's CS:GO transferred to Valve's Source 2 engine or a true Counter-Strike 2.
Meanwhile, one of the top female players in the scene, Olga Rodrigues, has made a move. Olga, who averaged an excellent 1.39 rating across 45 maps played in 2022, making her the top player on her previous team, FURIA, has joined the Chinese team HaoShengGaming (HSG).
Olga's departure from FURIA comes after days of negotiations, but the specifics of her new contract are yet to be disclosed. Her joining HSG will likely replace Wu "XiaoWu" Xinni in the starting lineup, as XiaoWu missed the recent competition HSG participated in.
Olga's tenure with FURIA was marked by significant contributions to the development of female CS:GO within the company. However, FURIA has never been able to defeat Nigma Galaxy, the leading female team in the scene. This trend continued in the 2022 ESL Impact grand finals, where FURIA lost all three of their encounters with Nigma Galaxy, and they were defeated once more this year in the semifinals of the ESL Impact Katowice tournament in February.
CS:GO's sustained growth is attributed to its basic gameplay, which has kept players engaged for years. Even in the face of less than ideal circumstances at launch and more recent challenges like database leaks and accusations from esports figures, CS:GO has managed to maintain its position as a favourite among gamers.
In a humorous tweet, CS:GO celebrated the new achievement, reminding players that even after all these years, the game is still going strong. Some fans are playing CS:GO as a distraction from these challenges, finding solace in the familiarity and enjoyment the game provides.
HSG, like many teams, can only send its female team to the open qualifiers for the Major circuit, as it lacks a male squad. With Olga on board, HSG will be aiming to qualify for the RMR of the second CS:GO Major in 2023.
The previous concurrent player record was set in February 2023, with 1.32 million players. But with the recent surge, it seems that the record-breaking streak is here to stay. The $400 knives in CS:GO are often cited as a factor contributing to the game's longevity, and with the excitement surrounding the possibility of a new game, it's clear that CS:GO's future is as bright as its present.
