Renowned poker player Olivier Busquet emerges victorious at Borgata with impressive winnings.
In a thrilling conclusion to the Borgata Summer Poker Open, Olivier Busquet emerged victorious, securing the first-place prize money of $255,135. This triumph marks Busquet's second victory at the Borgata site, 16 years after his initial triumph in 2005.
Busquet, who has been playing poker tournaments for almost 20 years, credits his success to his experience in navigating different types of fields. After taking a break from live tournaments following the COVID pandemic, Busquet returned with renewed vigour, partially due to personal reasons such as meeting his wife and starting a family.
The final table of the tournament saw a series of exciting hands. Ryan Dodd was the first to be eliminated, followed by Gerard Brady and Jeremy Flieder. Farid Jattin was the next casualty, losing multiple flips before being eliminated. Sridhar Sangannagari, who was the short stack, lost his chips to Matthew Beinner.
Beinner, who finished in third place, had a close call against Abe Gordon in a crucial hand, ultimately losing out on the chance to face Busquet in heads-up play. Gordon, who finished as the runner-up, took home $233,255.
Interestingly, a deal was agreed upon by Busquet and Gordon before the heads-up play, with Busquet holding 60% of the chips. This deal ensured a significant payout for both players, reflecting the competitive nature of the tournament.
Busquet's victory generated a prize pool of $1,644,000, surpassing the $1 million guarantee. His return to live tournaments has been profitable, and he hopes to continue playing, inspired by the support from his family, whom he gave a shoutout to.
With this win, Busquet adds another accolade to his long list of accomplishments in poker. According to The Hendon Mob, he has over $9 million in career live earnings and millions more online. Busquet's victory at the 2025 Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship is a testament to his enduring talent and dedication to the game.
