Reshaping Heights: The Journey of a Marketing Specialist Lifting a Civil Engineering Company through Drone Technology
Seth Morin, a content marketer at Wessler Engineering with nearly a decade of experience, has taken his role to new heights with the addition of a drone to his toolkit. After passing the FAA's Part 107 test in April, Morin purchased a DJI Air 3 drone and has since been capturing aerial photos and videos of Wessler Engineering's job sites.
Morin's Part 107 certification has significantly impacted his role at Wessler Engineering. The company, which specialises in water towers, wastewater treatment plants, stormwater sites, and wetlands, among other projects, is now leveraging drones to document a wider range of their work.
One of the key benefits of Morin's drone work is the ability to capture unique visual stories that showcase the progress and improvements made on each project. After each site visit, he sends a folder of aerial photos and videos at no cost to the client, allowing them to demonstrate progress and do their own marketing.
The leadership at Wessler Engineering is particularly pleased with Morin's initiative. They are asking him to get out into the field more, not just to shoot deliverables, but to help shape the firm's public image. The business development team is even exploring the use of drone content in proposals, bids, and presentations.
Pre-construction footage is being used as a visual baseline for ongoing work, and time-lapse progress documentation for long-term projects is now being captured using drones. B-roll footage for internal company videos and newsletters includes dynamic "walk and talk" footage captured using drones.
Colleagues in other departments have started requesting drone media for presentations or client updates. The community-friendly project highlights, such as unique visual stories, are being captured using drones, adding a new dimension to Wessler Engineering's work.
Morin's drone work has made his job more enjoyable, creative, and effective. He plans to go back and take aerial photos and videos from the same angles after projects are completed to show the progress and improvements made. Drone Pilot Ground School guided Morin in preparing for the FAA Part 107 exam, providing him with the necessary skills to excel in his new role.
With the integration of drones into Wessler Engineering's workflow, the company is poised to continue delivering high-quality projects while also showcasing their work in innovative and engaging ways.
