residence ablaze
On the evening of August 21st, a residential fire broke out at Willi-Graf-Straße in Euskirchen-Kuchenheim, causing quite a stir in the community.
The incident began shortly after 10:40 PM when a heater fan in the living room of a residence was turned on. The fire started moments later, triggering the smoke alarm, which alerted the 60-year-old resident to the danger.
The resident, who had left the room to go to the kitchen, quickly returned and called the fire department. In the meantime, neighbours, alerted by the smoke alarm, took swift action. They grabbed a bucket of water and bravely extinguished the fire before the fire department arrived on the scene.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. However, the apartment has been deemed temporarily uninhabitable and has been sealed off for safety reasons.
The fire department's quick response and the neighbours' timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the multi-family building.
Police in Euskirchen have launched an investigation into the suspected negligent arson, as the name of the 60-year-old resident who presumably caused the fire has not been disclosed.
This incident serves as a reminder to always exercise caution when using heating appliances and to always ensure they are turned off when leaving the room or going to bed. Let's hope for everyone's safety and the swift resolution of the investigation.
