The town hall in Hürth-Hermülheim has introduced a new service aimed at making it easier for citizens to contact the Social Services department. This virtual office, a six-week test phase of which was launched in 2025 as part of the Caritas 2025 campaign "Da kann ja jeder kommen," offers a digital option alongside personal visits to the town hall.
During scheduled opening hours, citizens can access various services provided by the Social Services department within the virtual office. These services include contacting responsible persons, booking digital appointments with individual departments, and consulting with employees via video conferencing. The head of the Social Services Department, Christoph Limmer, oversees this initiative.
The virtual office adheres to all data protection requirements and the highest security standards, ensuring the safety and privacy of its users. However, wait times may occur depending on demand in the virtual office. Information regarding the waiting list position or potential wait times has not been provided.
The virtual office service is a collaboration with ACP IT Solutions. It caters to three main areas: General Social Counseling, Education and Participation, and the Caseworker for Refugees. The Caseworker for Refugees is available every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 12 pm, while the Education and Participation department can be contacted on Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm. The General Social Counseling is available every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm.
The introduction of the virtual office was accompanied by Johannes Bawidamann and IT experts. The virtual office's website is now accessible at [website]. Citizens are encouraged to visit the website to learn more about the services offered and to book digital appointments as needed. Personal visits to the town hall remain possible alongside the virtual office service.
This pilot project marks an important step in the town hall's digitalization efforts, providing a more convenient and accessible way for citizens to interact with the Social Services department. The success of the virtual office will be closely monitored, with the potential for its continued use beyond the initial test phase.
