Retail giant, Forever 21, plans to expand its business with 14 additional stores
In a bid to cater to modern shoppers, retailers are reworking their stores by integrating technology and providing age-appropriate experiences. One such retailer making a comeback is Forever 21, a favourite among Gen Z, as per research from AI firm Helixa.
Forever 21, which was rescued from bankruptcy over two years ago by some of its key landlords, has made a significant stride with the opening of its first new store at the Gran Plaza Outlets in Calexico, California, in August. This marks the beginning of a revitalised Forever 21, with plans to open 14 new stores across the US by June 2023.
The new Forever 21 stores will offer the buy online, pick up in store option, making shopping more convenient for customers. The other thirteen new locations will open in Aurora, Illinois; Warwick, Rhode Island; Las Vegas; Altoona, Iowa; Grove City and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Norfolk and Leesburg, Virginia; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Woodstock, Georgia; Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; Florida City, Florida; Tejon Ranch, California; and more.
Each new Forever 21 location will feature grand opening events and special promotions, including photo op setups, gift card giveaways, gifts with purchase, and food and beverages. Consumers are returning to Forever 21 stores, signalling a positive trend for the retailer.
Forever 21's online business remains strong and is a key component of its growth strategy. However, the fast fashion industry, including Forever 21, is facing challenges, such as competition from resale and even faster brands like Shein. Sustainability issues are also a concern for the industry.
To address these challenges, Forever 21 is using complementary shop-in-shops and reworking its stores to suit shoppers. The company is also making efforts to become more sustainable, although specific details about these efforts are not yet available.
Forever 21's revival is led by CEO Winnie Park, who started working at the company in January. It remains to be seen how these new strategies will shape Forever 21's future in the competitive fast fashion market.
