Horse Racing: Quisisana Secures Wildcard Entry for Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

The horse Quisisana has been given a wildcard entry and will compete in the prestigious Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on October 5, 2025, at ParisLongchamp. This comes after Quisisana's participation in the Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet, one of the Arc Trials Day races at Longchamp.

In the upcoming Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Whirl, a daughter of Wootton Bassett, is currently priced at 8-1. Sosie and Los Angeles are set to renew their rivalry in the Prix Foy, but both horses have had below-par performances in their recent outings.

Los Angeles, who has failed to maintain his form in two subsequent runs, finishing fifth in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot and fourth in a Group 3 at the Curragh, will be facing Sosie in the Prix Foy. Sosie could bounce back on more favourable conditions in Sunday's Prix Foy, as he won the Prix Niel on this card 12 months ago.

Leffard, Jean-Claude Rouget's colt and a main rival in the Prix Niel, had a disappointing performance in the French Derby earlier this year, but bounced back to form when landing the Grand Prix de Paris last time. Leffard is the one to beat on these terms if running up to his Grand Prix de Paris form, but he could need this first start in eight weeks.

The good to firm ground may have contributed to Sosie's defeat in the Coral-Eclipse, as it was the quickest surface he had faced in his career. Giavellotto, a six-year-old trained by Marco Botti, with two wins on the all-weather and a record of going well fresh, is a rival to Kalpana in the Unibet September Stakes at Kempton.

Whirl, who has won three of her last four starts, with her only defeat coming in the Oaks at Epsom, faces a top-class rival in Aventure in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp. Kalpana, a filly trained by Andrew Balding, is currently priced at 6-1 for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Stepping back up to 1m4f will suit Los Angeles, but his recent performances leave questions to be answered. Los Angeles kicked off his campaign with back-to-back wins, the most recent of which came at Group 1 level in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May.

Also in opposition in the Prix Niel is Tennessee Stud, a Group 1-winning juvenile who finished third in the Derby at Epsom in June before a fourth in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh later that month. Kalpana has failed to win in three starts this season but has run creditably in Group 1 company. Giavellotto faces a tough task conceding 3lb to Kalpana, who is officially rated 2lb superior.

Kalpana won the Unibet September Stakes at Kempton last year and the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot in October. It remains to be seen if these horses can live up to expectations and make a mark in their respective races.
