Revamped "Secure Haven" at PP Recklinghausen Now in Place
On July 8, the Police Headquarters Recklinghausen announced the appointment of Markus Wippermann as the new Evangelical Police Chaplain. The news was transmitted via news aktuell.
Markus Wippermann, a native of Dortmund, has been residing in Gladbeck since 2022. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as a crisis intervention chaplain.
Before taking on this role, Wippermann was a police officer. His passion for supporting others in times of crisis led him to transition into the role of a chaplain.
Wippermann will share responsibilities with his Catholic colleague, Gregor Coerdt. The police chaplaincy, a "safe space for those who protect," is not part of the official hierarchy. Their responsibilities include teaching professional ethics, supporting colleagues after challenging deployments, and being available for guidance in professional or personal matters.
Police President Friederike Zurhausen welcomed Wippermann, expressing her confidence in his ability to provide spiritual support to both victims and police officers. Wippermann, in turn, expressed his excitement about starting this new role and looking forward to serving the community in Recklinghausen.
In addition to his role as the Evangelical Police Chaplain, Wippermann also serves as a community pastor in Gladbeck. He enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering in crisis intervention.
